Ford has developed a noise-cancelling kennel prototype inspired by the company’s noise-control tech that was introduced in its Edge SUV to minimize engine and transmission noises.

Especially when there is a celebration like New Year’s Eve, as the countdown to midnight begins and the skies are illuminated by fireworks. But the soundtrack to that experience can be a painful one for pets and worrying for owners.

In regards to how it functions, the noise-cancelling tech is activated when microphones inside the kennel detect the sound of fireworks or loud noises. A built-in audio system then transmits frequencies that significantly reduce or cancel the incoming noise that would stress your dog. The kennel is also composed of high-density cork to further minimize outside noises.

If you’re interested in the special kennel, the device is not currently for sale, but Ford says it “is the first in a series of initiatives-called Interventions-that applies automotive know-how to help solve everyday problems.”
